Tips for Grooming

The Hair

As barbers and grooming advisors, we will guide you in achieving the best hairstyle for your type of hair, and remember have a hairstyle that suits you, not one that is dictated by fashion.. We can advise you.

 1.    Hair hygiene

You can easily be confused about what products are most suited to your skin. You don’t have to spend lots of money on products you don’t need. Just a few dollars will buy you the ones you really do need.

 2.    Shampoo and conditioner

We will give you the right advice on choosing the shampoo to suit your hair, and because hair should be washed daily, a mild shampoo is recommended.

A conditioner should only be used if your hair needs it, we can advise you.

 3.    Hair dressings

We don’t recommend using an oil dressing on the hair as this only attracts the dirt and dust in the air and can counterbalance the natural secretion of sebum.

 4.    The hair cut

The client and the barber have to communicate with each other to achieve the best hair cut. You shouldn’t expect excellence on the first visit.

The barber has to understand the growth pattern, i.e. which direction the hair grows and what style suits the client.

Also the lifestyle and profession are considered, and whether high or low maintenance is required.

The best advice we can give is to come and talk to us about your requirements.

The Skin

By following the guide for shaving, you're half way there with regard to good skin care.

1.    Using the right products

You can easily be confused about what products are most suited to your skin. You don’t have to spend lots of money on products you don’t need. Just a few dollars will buy you the ones you really do need.

2.    Treatments

It is recommended that facial treatments are taken to combat the damage of the environment, such as pollution, air conditioning and recreational activities like gardening, sport and DIY jobs.

Facial include deep cleansing of the pores, toning and moisturising the skin. Also the massage itself can take away the stress of the day.

It’s worth trying if only once just to experience how relaxing it can be.

3.    What to do and when

Basic skin care take as little as four minutes in the morning, two minutes during the day and two minutes in the evening.

You already know what to do for shaving, but it’s good to wash and moisturise the face during the day, to get rid of the grime it has collected. Repeat again at bedtime. Try this and you will soon see the difference.

4.    Finally

Something we don’t do enough is to drink water. Our skin needs water to keep it supple, elastic and hydrated. By drinking water you will keep the face glowing.

The Shave (or everything you should know about it)

Shaving is one of the most enjoyable procedures in our Shop. Think of it as of the little pleasure you could treat yourself with. We can guide you how to achieve the ultimate shave with fewer strokes and less irritation, using the latest razors available.

By taking a shower before you shave, you will soften the beard. Just massage the beard at the end of the shower or splash the face with warm water.

The best way to lift the bristle from the face is to use a shaving brush (A big range is available in the Shop) and our rich moisturising shaving cream. This will give you an excellent start for a close shave. Just rub the brush around the face using circular movements and the skin is lubricated ready for the razor. Alternatively you can use shaving gel. We do not recommend foam. All our barbers recommend the Gillette Mach 3 or Excel Sensor razors.

Always guide the razor in the direction of the growth of the beard, never against. This should achieve a close shave, but if you feel it necessary to go closer, you should re-lather and go across the grain, but if your skin feels any irritation, stop and try again tomorrow.

After shaving, always rinse the skin with cold fresh water (which will help to close the pores) then pat the face dry never rub it.

Finally use alcohol free aftershave balms. This helps replace some of the natural oils lost when shaving. Our balms have vitamin E added which restores collagen layer of the skin and soothes any microscopic cuts or irritation.
